The golden rule for easy maintenance:
“A little, but regularly” beats “rarely and drastically”!
What does this mean in practice?
- Test the water 1–2 times a week
- Use test strips or a digital tester to monitor:
- pH (target: 7.2 – 7.6)
- Chlorine (target: 1 – 3 ppm)
- Alkalinity and hardness (according to the recommendations for your pool type)
- Keep filtration running for at least 6–8 hours a day
- Especially during the hot months! The pump is the heart of clean water—don’t neglect it.
- Clean the surface 2–3 times a week
- A skimmer or a handheld net works wonders. Remove leaves, insects, and other debris right away, before they sink to the bottom.
- Add small doses of chlorine regularly (tablets or salt electrolysis)
- Avoid sudden spikes in chlorine—they stress the water and your skin.
- Algaecide – once a week
- Prevention is much easier than fighting the “green nightmare” (algae).
- Pool vacuum – once a week
- If you don’t have a robot, a manual vacuum also does a great job. The bottom should be as clean as the water.
